Still one of the best out there
The SM Safely booklet from the San Francisco based STOP AIDS Project has been around for a number of years and is in its 3rd printing. Despite the passage of time the primer is still one of the best overall resources that we've encountered for BDSM play.
It's not just a how to for the usual activities like fisting and flogging, this book goes beyond damage and disease and gets in to related ares such as how to hook up safely and how to take care of your gear.
It's not comprehensive but it's pretty damn close and makes an excellent read for expert and newbie alike. Although It's geared mostly for men on men, much of the info is gender irrelevant and their is a section on vaginal fisting.
This was written at a time when Safe, Sane and Consensual guidelines were pretty much the only accepted approach. These days a lot of players prefer Risk Aware Consensual Kink (RACK) which allows for activities that are not considered safe under the stricter SSC guidelines, such as barebacking, but are an acceptable risk to you and to your partners. Still, knowing the most safe way to approach something helps set your limits and knowledge is never a bad thing.
So download a copy for yourself and enjoy. You should also consider including this in your next event goodie bag as well. Contact the STOP AIDS Project for more info.
