Another degree of separation bites it
In downtown Pittsburgh in the disco fever 1980s, a sign with a red winged horse appeared and signaled the opening of Pegasus. Gay men flocked down the steps, past a colorful mural, up to the bar and onto the dance floor.
Nearly 30 years after it opened in June 1980, Pegasus closed its doors on Sunday, December 6th and moved to the first two floors of Pittsburgh Eagle, a four-story leather bar on the North Side.
The relocated twinks and drag queens will make for an interesting mix. Of course they may just be the same clientele in different outfits!
California Leather SIR/boy in Palm Springs
The Barracks Bar Palm Springs will be the location for the 2010 California Leather SIR/boy contest. The weekend of fun features contests for Leather SIR, Leather boy and Community Bootblack. Put April 23 and 24 on you calendar and book early at someplace fun and leathery like Chaps Inn. More information about the weekend and competing is available on the Facebook page.
Forty seconds of Furry
Furdom is a largely unknown scene and those in the lifestyle have been happy to keep it that way, due to consistent misunderstandings and sensationalization. So what is a furry?
No standard definition exists but generally furries are people who have a fascination with anthropomorphic animals. These are animals that are given human traits, like walking and talking. They can be anything from cartoons characters like Bugs Bunny to computer game personalities like Pokemon.
The scene has its own art, animation, comic books and literature, but activities are largely conducted online - where furries adopt "fursonas" for role playing.
But for many it is about meeting other furries in person. Groups around the world meet regularly and there are conventions in the US, UK, Germany, Mexico, France, Russia and Brazil.
A little glossary for you:
- Fursona - furry persona
- Plushie - person who loves cuddly toys
- Fleshie - a non furry
- Fursuiters - People who dress in animal costumes
- Yiff - furry porn
- Skritching - scratching and grooming
