Mr SECC Leather 2011

Wow … how do I explain this past weekend at the Mr. SECC 2011 contest?  This is my third year at the event and it still manages to blow me away.  For those who have never been, “wow” doesn’t even begin to describe it.  I’ve racked my brain for the appropriate words to describe this, but as a few of my local friends found out, the only real way to know what it’s like, is to go.  As a unique blend of a leather contest and leather run, the weekend has something for everyone into this lifestyle.

I guess you can say I’m a bit biased though.  As a third year attendee I’ve never been let down.  I was an assistant den daddy the first year, and judge’s boy last year.  This year as hard as I tried to just be an attendee, the family did me the honor of allowing me to explore a new role as an inspiring MC.  

A little background for those unfamiliar: The SECC (Southeast Conference of Clubs) is a coalition comprised of 21 leather organizations from all across the Southeast region of the United States.  The club I represent, The South Florida boys of Leather is a member group.  The SECC’s core mission is to promote brotherhood, leadership, community, and camaraderie amongst our members and the community at large. So enough about me, let’s get to the nitty gritty.  You want to know all about the contest don’t you?  I’ll provide a breakdown of the weekend for you as best I can.

Eastern Canada LeatherSIR/boy Contest Weekend

ECLSb happened this past weekend in Toronto and Leatherati's Northland correspondent JJ Deogracias was on hand for every minute of the action.  Check out his live blog on Leatherati Live.

Corset Tea Salon

On Saturday, February 5^th Leatherati.com was invited to attend the Corset Tea Salon. This fantastic event was a fundraiser put together by Serene, Southern California Leather Woman 2010, benefiting the Woodhill Freedom Foundation and the Women’s Leather History Project at the Leather Archives and Museum.  Serene raised funds to bring the WLHP to Los Angeles.

The California winter sun was shining, as folks filled the Chado Tea Room for this sold out event. Beautiful tea sandwiches, tiny scones with homemade jam, and fresh fruits were served with an impressive variety of teas. Attendees lounged on stately leather couches, chatted with friends, and enjoyed browsing the wares of a handful of unique vendors. Belly Dancers performed for the crowd, as suited waiters scurried about refilling teacups and refreshing plates.

A silent auction was held, along with a fashion show featuring a number of stunning women in their finest corsets. Perennial good sports American Leatherman 2010 Louie Pacheco and IML 2007 Mike Gerle also modeled corsets for the crowd, and LA Leather Bear 2010 Manny Ramirez DJ-ed the event.

Congratulations to Serene for throwing an amazing party for two fantastic causes.

"Kink Crusaders" Selected for CineKink

CineKink has announced that the "Season Opener" selection for its eighth annual film festival, CineKink NYC, running March 1-6, 2011, will be the world premiere of the documentary, Kink Crusaders. 

Directed by Mike Skiff, Kink Crusaders profiles the International Mr. Leather contest, an annual event that started out in a Chicago bar over thirty years ago and now draws thousands of men from around the world to compete for a title and a sash. As it traces the history of the event, the documentary also reveals the many ways that the Leather community, once a small, insular niche, has expanded into the mainstream. And it delves into the aspirations of its contestants, past and present, who transform their lives through a competition that celebrates not only the art and beauty of masculinity, but also upholds the importance of service and community.

"It feels very fitting to return to CineKink's roots with KINK CRUSADERS," said Lisa Vandever, co-founder and director of CineKink. "Our festival developed out of the spirit of celebration, inclusion and activism we encountered in the Leather world. We're very proud to give the film its world premiere and present it to our audiences."

Atlanta Leather Pride

Atlanta puts on a second, sexy leather skin the weekend of April 1-3, 2011 as Atlanta Leather Pride returns to the Atlanta Eagle for its 2^nd year. 

The weekend hosts a variety of events from the Friday night FETISH: Black and Blue Party to a Saturday afternoon BBQ and the selection of Mr Atlanta Eagle 2011 that night.  The celebration doesn’t end there
as the weekend also commemorates the 24^th anniversary of the Atlanta Eagle. 

Regional titleholders from all over the nation are slated to attend in conjunction with a number of historical Atlanta Eagle titleholders.  Local clubs Onyx, Panther L/L, Atlanta S/M Solidarity, and Hotlanta Rubber will be present.

Leatherati Live is Busy This Weekend!

This weekend, for the first time ever, we have correspondents in two separate cities covering events for Leatherati Live.

In Minneapolis, Tynan Fox is covering the Mr Twin Cities Leather contest and in Toronto, our Northland correspondent JJ Deogracias is on hand for the Eastern Canada Leather Sir/boy.

Mr Leatherman Toronto Fundraising Beneficiary Announced

Mr. Leatherman Toronto Competition Inc. (MLT), one of Canada's largest producers of leather events, is proud to announce The 519 Church Street Community Centre (The 519) as the beneficiary of MLT's fundraising activities in 2011. 

The beneficiary is chosen each year by MLT's three titleholders and approved by the board of directors. Mr. Leatherman Toronto 2011 Paul Hackett, Bootblack Toronto 2011 Jake English, and Mr. Leather Fellowship 2011 Ryan Russell will work throughout the year at many fundraising events to benefit the designated charity.
