ILSb/ICBB 2011 Winners

ILSb/ICBB wrapped up for 2011 on Saturday night with part 2 of the contest, the crowd favorite fantasies and Bootblack speeches.

The Southeast and California regions came out on top when the end of the night rolled around and the new titleholders were announced for 2011:  International Community Bootblack is California Community Bootblack Luna, International Leatherboy 2011 is Southeast Leatherboy Pup Nitro and International LeatherSIR 2011 is Southeast LeatherSIR Alan Penrod.

Congrats to all of the contestants, producers and volunteers for another excellent contest weekend.  We hear "confirmed" rumors about major changes in store for 2012 and we'll keep you posted on those developments.

 But now we're off to Dore Alley for some seriously kinky eye candy!

Photo by Alex LO thesecondskin.net The International Deaf Leather Family grew by two more on July 14th as Sir Justin Eddy & boy david pirc  were sashed  International Mr. Deaf Leather & International Deaf Leatherboy.  Denver Colorado was the site of the 20th anniversary IDL celebration which brought out most of the titleholders from the organization's 2 decade long history.  "For 20 years we have hosted contests that produced some of the best Leather titleholders around." says IDL President Alex "boy alex" Leffers. "We've also created a safe place for Deaf Leather people to come together and celebrate who we are, and to be ourselves...without fear of bigotry and hatred. We could just be ourselves and have fun."

Tribe Day

As part of a group of clubs and bars nationwide, the Chicago Leather Club is organizing the Chicago participation in the Tribe Day, a Day of Leather Remembrance and Celebration on Friday, September 23rd, the first day of autumn in the United States.

Autumn is a season of change and death, as well as a celebration of life and nature. We all have lost friends and family within our Leather Community, and as a community. As a community, we can come together to ensure those lost are memorialized and the lives of our deceased brothers and sisters can be treasured, remembered and celebrated.

Together with the Leather Archives & Museum and participating local leather bars, CLC will be providing a space and remembrance for those that want to come and share stories, remember and celebrate the lives that we've shared and lost. There will be a memory book and materials provided if you want to write a note or share a photo - all materials will be turned over to the Leather Archives & Museum following TRIBE Day to become a part of their collection. From 5 to 7pm, the Remembrance will be at the Leather Archives & Museum, with trips to the local leather bars afterwards from 8 to 1am (tentatively, we'll be at Touche's from 8 to 10, and at the Hole from 11 to 1am).

We welcome any and all leatherfolk, clubs and organizations that want to come join us as a community, as a tribe and rejoice in what we've shared and what we can pass on. I would love to see this go world wide!

The conversation that Tony brings to life in his article is especially timely given the Leathermen's Discussion Group last night on the topic of Is Leather Dead?   We'll have a report on that later from Leatherati corresponodent Leland Carina.

International Community Bootblack Rollcall

On Thursday, July 28^th, the 2011 International Community Bootblack Contest will commence as part of the International Leather Sir/Leather boy and International Community Bootblack Weekend and as such let’s meet 2011’s seven regional contestants competing for this year’s International Community Bootblack Title. 

But before we introduce our contestants, we, at Leatherati, were saddened to learn that 2011 Bootblack Toronto slaveboy jake will not be competing in this year’s ICBB due to a death in the family. Our deepest condolences go out to slaveboy jake and his family during this difficult time.

From the Northwest Region, we have Sole Survivor (Northwest Community Bootblack 2011). Hailing from Seattle, Washington, Sole Survivor is active in the community working with Lambert House, a safe place for queer youth, Bradley Angle, the west coast’s first Domestic Violence Shelter and The Tony Deblase Scholarship Fund. 

Ask Leatherati & Leatherati Voices

The Kink/Leather/Fetish/Perv world can be a confusing, and even dangerous, place to navigate.  We've been informally fielding questions from Leatherati fans for quite a while about everything from where to find a piece of gear to how to handle an online stalker.

Enter Lucesco, a long-time kinkster, who has taken the reins of our brand new column; Ask Leatherati.

Speaking of changes and new directions, we're also debuting an all new channel on Leatherati; Leatherati Voices.  

This was formerly known as the Leatherati Issues channel where we've tackled in-depth series such as Where are the Leatherwomen and the recent Do You Need a Title to Make a Difference?  We realized that we don't always need to tackle an entire series to give voice to the issues percolating to the surface.  We often receive excellent single submissions on timely and sometimes controversial topics and with a dedicated Voices channel we can give voice to these people immediately.
