News to Abuse: Tom of Finland - Fetisch Film Festival - Leather H8ters

Antebellum in Hollywood, CA will be presenting never-before-seen collages, "doodles" and photography by Tom of Finalnd in an exhibit curated by Rick Castro

November 7th, 2011 is the 20th anniversary of Tom of Finalnd's passing.  Please join Rick Castro, Durk Dehner, Sharp and the Tom of Finland Foundation for an opening reception on Mondday, November 7th from 6pm til 9pm.  There is a $10 donation requested.  The exhibit will run through December 23rd.

Leather Haters in LA - Another Chapter

Here's an article from Mike Martinez at Queer Landia about the apparent snub of the IML Documentary Kink Crusaders by both the Long Beach LGBT film festival and the LA Outfest organization.  

We ran an article on this earlier in the year and it definitely appears as if the issue is still smoldering, although subsequent talks with the folks from Long Beach left me very hopeful that they are actively looking for ways to include KC and the leather community in future programming.

On Saturday, the 8th of October 2011, Max Schmal was elected as Mr Leather Berlin 2011.

The event was organized by Berlin Leder & Fetisch and held during their 13th October Rubber & Fetish Weekend.

The contest took place at Berlin’s New Action bar, a day after the Mr Rubber Berlin 2011 contest.

Mr Rubber Netherlands

Last Saturday, October 8th, during a sweltering night, the new Mr. Rubber Netherlands 2012 was chosen: Tony! Around nine o-clock  in the evening Club COC in Amsterdam club filled up with guys dressed in sleek, mostly black, rubber. 

No ordinary party, this Mr. Rubber Netherlands election, but an event with a surprisingly sensual atmosphere. Four candidates competed to win the title Mr. Rubber Netherlands 2012 under the eye of an international jury. Together with the audience the jury judged the candidates and saw how they, with just a few household items and one kinky item, were able to create an erotic picture on stage. Not only the candidates could win great prizes, the audience also had a chance to win something. 

Tony Varlack won the exciting contest. One of the prizes was a flight to Chicago to represent the Netherlands at Mr. International Rubber in November.

After the show everyone got acquainted in a relaxed atmosphere with all aspects of the rubber fetish. The large demonstration area was the major attraction, guys stood in line to get in to the vacuum-rack, straitjackets, rubber suits or gimpsuits. Others enjoyed watching, danced at the music of top-DJ’s or had intimate pleasure in an exciting, dark labyrinth.

The public had fully embraced the dress code and looked stunning. The purpose of the foundation is to get the Dutch rubber community together and with the relaxed, yet sexually charged, atmosphere this event was a complete success.

LeatherHistory.EU

On the 21st of September, 2011 Pieter Claeys officially registered LeatherHistory.EU as a Foundation with the Dutch Chamber Of Commerce.

The aim of the foundation is to map, preserve and share the history of leather & fetish lifestyles and culture. To achieve its goal the foundation hosts and maintains a website where a digital archive about European leather & fetish history is being built and seeks cooperation with and within the international leather & fetish community.

Pieter also announced the launch of a new website for the foundation on 1 October, 2011 with more focus on collecting and preserving the history of leather and fetish lifestyles and culture.

Twisted Leprechaun

Next week Victoria Windsor and I will be heading overseas to Ireland for a groundbreaking event called Twisted Leprechaun. The event runs from September 9 - 11. This is the biggest BDSM educational event in Europe, with over 50 workshops including ours. 

Plus, Twisted Leprechaun is Ireland's first kinky pansexual event!

In addition to the workshops, Twisted Leprechaun will also feature 3 play parties on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night in a well appointed dungeon featuring suspension frames, crosses, spanking benches, and stocks. Presenters will be coming in from all over the world including Ireland, Canada, the United States and all throughout Europe.

I will be teaching my mummification workshop. It will illustrate the basics of immobilizing a person head to toe in saran wrap and duct tape...and also vet wrap. Something my boy loves! Later the boy and I will be teaching a workshop in multi-functional wrist tying..a simple introductory bondage workshop that is hands-on.  

Victoria will be teaching her Whip-It-Good workshop, where you can learn how to crack a whip like a ringmaster and stroke the skin like a lover. She will also be teaching a class on fire play, where she will not only demonstrate the technique but also lead participants in constructing their own fire wands to take home and add to their toy collection.
