A new Mr Leatherman Toronto takes center stage
Last night the Phoenix Concert Theatre was the scene for the Mr Leatherman Toronto 2010 contest and the place was packed wall to wall with leather including titleholders galore from across Canada and the US.
Emcees IML 1979 David Kloss and Gay Guide Toronto's Shaun Prouix kicked things off pretty much on time and ran a tight and sexy show. First up were the Canadian and US national anthems, followed by an introduction of current titleholders present. Shaun then launched into a hilarious oral sex intro that had the audience howling.
After that oral fluffing we got to meet the judges for the weekend: Head Judge Peter Kincheloe; Shawn Carroll; Jon Kronkaarg; Andrea Zanin; Sir Dart; Peter Dillon, MLT 2009; and Alternate Judge Cheryl Fulcher who also served as Tallymaster. MLT also includes a very active bootblack contest and judges for that portion of the event included: Pony, International Ms Bootblack 2009; Carolyn Kelly' and Riley Johnson. Tallymaster for the bootblack contest was Tony Palazzo, International Leather Sir 2009.
After the judge's bows we got our first look at the seven contestants in their formal leather followed by their on-stage question. Contestants were: Andrew, Mr Steamworks; David, Mr Woody's/Priape; Devin, Mr Gladaman's Den; Joseph, Mr St, Marc's Spa; Josh, Mr Black Eagle; Kevin, Mr Spearhead; and Martin-Graham, Mr Barn.
The guys looked hot as hell in their gear and the judge's questions, some funny and some serious, really put the contestants through their paces. Side comments from from Shaun and David kept the audience well lubricated with laughter and in the end we got a good sense of where the contestants were coming from.
Once the MLT contestants were off the stage we met the Toronto Bootblack contestants: Bootboy Digger and Sandman and had a chance to listen to their on-stage speech.
We got a chance before the first break to meet the International titleholders: McG, International Bootblack 2009; Jeffrey, International Mr Leather 2009; Brendan, Mr Ottawa Leather 2009l; Tony, International Leather Sir 2009; Brad, International Leather boy 2009; Pony, International Ms Bootblack 2009; Fenn, Mr International Rubber 2010; and Terry, Mr International Deaf Leather 2009.
After the break it was back to catch the guys in their minimal wear and speeches. Woof! What a hot looking bunch of guys. Tough call for the judges!
While the contestants slipped back in to a little more coverage, Robert Tomas, Presiden of the MLT board took the podium to present a few awards for community service and recognition of accomplishments.
This was immediately followed by the presentation of the new Mr Bootblack Toronto. Two contestants vied for the title: Bootboy Digger and Sandman. Bootboy Digger took the title with Sandman taking 1st runner up. Digger will go on to compete at IML next May.
And now the results we were waiting for. The guys hit the stage one last time as a group and the selections were announced. Devin Thompson, Mr. Gladaman’s Den, was chosen by his fellow contestants as the new Mr. Leather Fellowship 2010 for best epitomizing the values of leather brotherhood.
For the first time, the contest also included a People’s Choice Award for Leather Stud, which was sponsored by Priape. After the audience votes were tallied, Kevin Romain, Mr. Spearhead and long-time contributor to the community, emerged the winner. First runner-up for the MLT 2010 title went to Joseph Deogracias, 28, Mr. St. Marc’s Spa. Second runner-up was awarded to Graham-Martin Campbell, 25, Mr. Barn.
David Ivey, Mr Woody's/Priape 2010, was selected as Mr Leatherman Toronto 2010. At 22, Ivey is the youngest man ever to win the Mr. Leatherman Toronto title since the contest's inception in 1989.
We had a chance to sit down with David at dinner and later for an interview and all we can say is, "Wow!" David will be a fantastic representative for the Toronto community and a great competitor at IML in May.
