SWLC - Day 1 Recap

Southwest Leather Conference for 2012 actually kicked off with the meet and greet on Thursday but unfortunately we couldn't arrive until Friday night. So, note to selves for next year (and oh yeah, we will be back next year) come on Thursday to enjoy every minute.

On Friday afternoon there were a number of excellent seminars like Primal Impact - Punching, Kicking and Deep Bruising with Jim Deuder and Passion Play with Leonora Ma'am. The fantastic vendor market also opened on Friday as did the silent auction and the hospitality suite. Tons to do for sure!

Friday night kicked off with the Formal Anniversary Dinner (part of the highly recommended meal package) with introductions of key people including SWLC Executive Director Joseph who in turn introduced slave alia who delivered an excellent keynote speech. Oh, and the food was pretty damn good too!

After dinner it was off to the dessert reception where current Southwest Master and slave, Master George and slave bren delivered short but poignant thank you speeches. And there was plenty of tasty dessert too!

We moved directly from the dessert reception to the Opening Ceremonies where we met the rest of the SWLC board. Joe pointed out the obvious, namely that all of his board members are incredible, strong women but then pointed out the equally obvious, that he's gay and swayed by their undeniable charms.

Master of Ceremonies IML 2009 Jeffrey Payne was introduced and the night was off and running. Jeffrey was incredibly funny and the interplay between him and ASL interpreter Gabrial was hilarious. The "collaring ceremony" of Jeffrey was particulary enjoyable. Oh and the other special treat was Jeffrey's insistence that Gabriel take off a piece of clothing for each of the 12 pages of the script. Oh yeah!

We were introduced to the Master/slave and the Bootblack contestants as well as the judges for both contests - names and particulars will follow. And finally we were instructed on the housekeeping of dungeon rules, cameras and the weekend schedule.

When Jeffrey finally cut us loose to enjoy the rest of the night we headed out, some to the awesome drum circle, others to grab toys for the multiple dungeon parties and still others headed to the vendor market and silent auction.

Whew, and this is just day 1!

PLPN follow up...

Philly Leather Pride Night isn't one night anymore but rather a weekend event and fund raiser, that truly does involve the entire community. So many groups lend their time, energy, sweat, and tears I'm sure to pull it all off. They had parties every night, socials, dinners, auctions, art show, speakers, classes, and presenters from all over coming out to support this event. One of the main focuses is on the fund raising, this year being no exception with over $12,000 being raised over the course of the weekend.

The Philadelphians MC raised $1700 for the Mazonni Center food bank, $500 raised during Leather Blender reception, with another $180 from Keystone boys of Leather totalling $680 to the SSC Fund, and over $9300 raised during the live auction with Jo Arnone. They have several wonderful charities the money gets divided amongst, By the Grace of George, Hearing from the Heart, and LA&M are just a few of these great causes.

The weekend was also about Leather Pride, as evidenced by the many great groups involved, the variety of venues included, and the people who came out! Rick Storer also helped make the announcement of a new backpatch club, Philladelphia Leather Alliance, patches were given to some of the key people. It was a very exciting moment and overall awesome weekend event.

First night of PLPN!

PLPN kicked off a weekend long event today that is sure to be a great time. Tonight was an artshow with some awesome works by local artists including some pieces by Judy Tallwing. Rick Storer from LA&M helped make the announcement of a new backpatch club Philadelphia Leather Alliance and patches were handed out to some of the key people. I found a picture of a Domme friend from Chicago on a magazine in the Carter/Johnson Library today which was personally fun and exciting. I always find something when I spend time in that library. There was a Leather Blender reception which had many leather folks from all over out socializing. Then many headed over to the Bike Stop for the Kinky Karnival. That was all just the first day.
